A New Year. New beginnings. A great time to learn about Pennsylvania’s Clean Slate Law, a law permitting the removal of certain arrests or convictions from your criminal record. These arrests and convictions can haunt you throughout your life especially when applying to college or looking for a new job.
If you were convicted of underage drinking, provided you were at least 18 years old at the time, you may be able to have your record expunged, which means it can not be found in your history.
If you were convicted of a low-level offense called a summary offense and you have not been arrested for anything else in at least five years, you may be able to have your record expunged.
If you were convicted of a second or third degree misdemeanor that carries a sentence of not more than two years in prison, you may be eligible to have your record sealed which still means the criminal record is not accessible to the general public.
This is a cutting edge law that has been in effect only since June, 2019 and it is intended to be a real benefit for folks who deserve the benefit.
Happy New Year. Happy Clean Slate.
